And now for something serious

Jerry's father (Leo Gobet) fought in the European theater for WWII. He was infantry and walked from Holland (Netherlands) across to Germany past Koln (Cologne). He fought in the Battle of the Bulge as well as freeing concentration camps deep within Germany. One of the most important battles he was involved in was at the bridge of Remegen. Here is the Wikipedia page on it. We traveled with Siggi and Manfred to Remegen in hopes of being able to see the site that Leo n fought and crossed the Rhine River. This was very important to us. On March 5 Leo turned 89 years old. He told us he spent his 20th birthday there at Remegen fighting over the Rhine. Please read the Wikipedia page and look at Map E on this page. If you want, then you will know what these pictures are about.
It is hard to explain the pictures. But to be here and think of what happened here while seeing it with our German friends, it opens up an interesting dialog. I am glad we have good friends that do not take offense as we talk about our countries actions and how the politics effects each of the citizens. Lesson learned. . . keep an open mind and watch how you judge.

Loving the blog! I'm glad Jerry was able to visit the location and experience this part of his family's history first hand.

Travel safe!
